PRACTICE & RECORDING TOOLS

Interchart - Designed primarily for guitar, but a very useful little tool for bass also.  Interchart is a Java Applet that will display scales, arpeggios and chords based on parameters you set.  Especially handy for study of 6 and 7 string bass.  After a brief fling with a 5 string, I stick to 4 strings, but I recognize the value of this tool!

TUNE MY BASS Online Electronic Tuner - Tune your 4, 5, 6 or even 7 string bass...or your 6 string or 7 string guitar with the free online tuner from TuneMyBass.Com!  Just select the type tuning, including a variety of custom tunings, the tuner loads and you hover your mouse over the string to hear the pitch.  Match the pitch heard online with the pitch from your instrument.  This Andrew Pouska's companion site to his Study Bass site.

Online Electronic Metronome - A simple online adjustable click generator.  Free for online use.  You can also download it to your cell phone for just under $6 and take it anywhere.

Audacity - A free audio recording software for your computer.  Plug in your bass to your computer and play along to your favorite songs while recording both and listen to how you are doing!   Great for making a quick demo at home.   Nothing shows how good...or bad...you really are better than recording it and playing it back a day or two later so you can hear it with fresher ears.

Find Sound Effects -  If you need a pre-recorded sound effect, here is a search engine that looks for whatever sound you need.  Telephone rings, car crashes, sirens, screams, machines or whatever.  Even if it has nothing to do with bass it is still a very cool site!
